2018 Audi A5 and S5 Sportback Unveiled at 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show
This week at the 2016 Los Angeles International Auto Show, Audi introduced all-new Sportback variants of the 2018 A5 and S5 compact premium car models. Both sporty and roomy Sportbacks that seat 5 previously were only offered in Europe, but will begin reaching U.S. dealerships in the spring of 2017.
Distinctive swept-back styling for both hatchback variants that come standard with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive (AWD) includes a wider, flatter grille and longer, lower hood lines. The new cars also feature wider wheel arches and the rear design features more elegant horizontal design lines with slim LED taillights. Both variants also come standard with a panorama sunroof.
A more refined interior cockpit includes 3-D inlay trim with integrated climate control from door panels across the dashboard. A Bang & Olufsen audiophile system is available in the A5 and S5 Sportback models.
The A5 Sportback is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine partnered with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that generates 252 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque allowing the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds by Audi’s stopwatch. A robust 3.0-liter V-6 engine and 8-speed Tiptronic automatic are standard in the S5 Sportback, and it produces 354 horsepower with 369 lb.-ft. of torque to leap from 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, Audi says.
Additionally, the two variants feature the same advanced infotainment systems as the A5 Coupe and Cabriolet variants and also offer the optional Audi virtual cockpit, MMI touch with handwriting recognition, and the newest in-car Audi connect infotainment and security features with 4G LTE connectivity. Advanced driver-assistance systems include standard adaptive cruise control with stop & go feature and traffic jam assist to help navigate through congestion and traffic.
