Overall Rating:

A true three-headed beast of the automotive world, the F-Pace combines the practicality of a crossover, the driving enjoyment of a sports car, and the unimpeachable styling of a modern Jaguar. Not only does it combine these traits, it does so impressively well, asking buyers to make few compromises along the way. Its spacious and well-built cabin provides room for four adults, space for their luggage, and a long list of available powertrains ranging from a slow but efficient turbo-diesel to a potent supercharged V-6. The F-Pace has a firm ride, and its infotainment system is somewhat half baked, but these are the tallest Jag’s few shortcomings and ones driving enthusiasts will easily forgive.

What’s New for 2018?

Jaguar has introduced a new turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine to the lineup for 2018 in both 247- and 296-hp states of tune. Also new to the lineup is the new range-topping Portfolio trim, which equips the F-Pace with 20-way adjustable front seats, soft leather upholstery, and almost all available features save for the optional adaptive suspension and heated front windshield and washer jets. The Prestige trim now comes with a sport steering wheel, R-Sport and S models can now be ordered with two-tone Light Oyster and Ebony seats, and two new active-safety features join the ranks: front cross-traffic alert and something Jaguar calls Forward Vehicle Guidance, which uses exterior cameras to aid in tight parking maneuvers.

What Was New for 2017?

The F-Pace, of course! This was Jaguar’s first ever SUV, and it debuted late in 2016 for the 2017 model year with the choice of four-cylinder-diesel or supercharged-V-6 powertrains. Every model included an eight-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, and a healthy level of standard equipment.

Trims and Options We’d Choose

Although it starts at a princely $60,770, the high-performance S model is the F-Pace to buy. Its 380-hp supercharged V-6 engine, adjustable suspension, and 20-inch wheels with performance tires help extract every last drop of performance out of the F-Pace’s finely tuned chassis. Plus, it comes with plenty of standard features that further justify its price:

• 18-way power-adjustable front seats with driver memory
• Lane-keeping assist, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert
• Power-operated rear liftgate
• Five years or 60,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance

All-wheel drive is standard, but buyers residing in northern climes may want to set aside some cash for winter tires if they intend to drive their F-Pace year-round.
