2018 Mazda 6 Redo Includes Turbocharged Engine

Mazda’s mid-size sedan has gone under the knife for the third time in five model years. The 2018 Mazda 6 sports refreshed looks, a new interior, and a completely revamped powertrain lineup that ought to keep the shapely sedan relevant in the face of stiff competition from the all-new Honda Accord and the redesigned Toyota Camry.

The most important changes are found under the long hood. Along with the adoption of cylinder deactivation for the current 2.5-liter inline-four, the 2018 Mazda 6 also will be available with the turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four found in the CX-9 mid-size crossover SUV. Although Mazda is keeping mum on specs, the turbo four makes 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque in the CX-9, while the naturally aspirated engine produces 184 horsepower in the 2017 Mazda 6.

Marking the second Mazda model in the United States to adopt the brand’s latest design language, the new 6 sports a front-end design similar to that of the CX-5 compact crossover. Defined by slim headlights and a big, five-point grille, the front end’s most eye-catching characteristic is the chrome grille surround that merges with the bottoms of the headlights.

Changes extend to the interior, where the new 6 has a redesigned dashboard with available Japanese sen-wood trim. Additionally, the available adaptive cruise control is now capable of bringing the 6 to a complete stop and can accelerate the car back up to the set speed once traffic clears. A 360-degree camera system is a new addition to the features list.

More information will be revealed when the updated mid-size sedan arrives at the Los Angeles auto show, and we expect the refreshed 2018 Mazda 6 to go on sale early next year.
