An impending 50th birthday is not a celebration most people want to hurry along, as it brings with it offers to join the AARP and, often, one’s first colonoscopy. It’s different, though, for automotive nameplates, which must be why Nissan is celebrating the Z’s 50th birthday a couple of years early with the 2018 370Z Heritage Edition.

Taking the stage at the New York auto show next week and arriving in dealerships later this spring, the Heritage Edition takes the base-model Z (which, Nissan points out, is the most popular variant), and dresses it up in one of two special color schemes. The pictured car is the Chicane Yellow Heritage Edition, in which the eponymous yellow body color is set off with black wheels, black stripes on the hood and body sides, and black mirrors. Inside, the black interior gets yellow accents. The Magnetic Black Heritage Edition features black paint with silver graphics and the same black-and-yellow interior. Both models are offered only in coupe form, with either the Z’s standard six-speed stick or the optional seven-speed automatic. The 3.7-liter V-6 is unchanged, making the same 332 horsepower here as it does in the rest of the sub-NISMO Z lineup.

As 2018 models, the Heritage Edition also includes the updates that are visited on the rest of the ’18 Z lineup, including a new high-performance clutch for the six-speed manual transmission, restyled headlights and taillights, dark-chrome door handles, and a revised rear fascia. Non-Heritage 370Zs also are getting a jump on the new model year, rolling into Nissan stores this spring.

Nissan hasn’t announced pricing of the Heritage Edition, but the current 370Z starts at $30,855 for the manual and $32,155 for the automatic. We’re not sure if Nissan will be offering a discount to buyers over 50 or whether such a giveaway would be contingent on matinée purchasing hours, but it never hurts to ask.
