The big news about the new GT3 is that once again, Porsche's best road-going track car is available with a manual, but that transmission won't go in to full production until October. That means that all the initial videos and reviews that came this morning are a car with PDK, but it has everything else. The new engine, the revised chassis and all the tweaks and upgrades in between that make this car more enjoyable to drive than either an RS of an R. That's a bummer if you paid triple (or more) the list price for either.

The new GT3 comes with a 4.0 instead of a 3.8, and compared to the 4.0 found in the RS and the R, this direct-injection flat-six has a rigid valvetrain system straight off the motorsport shelf. It also comes with new pistons, rings, crank and bearings, as well as a more slippery cylinder liner coating to reduce friction and provide more mid-range torque. The result is 493 horsepower and 339 pound feet of torque, and a flat-six scream at 9000 that never gets old.

Using a new version of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, the 2018 GT3 also comes with revised dampers and springs, a different power- and rear-wheel steering setup, an even faster PDK and a whole lot more aero. As well as a new underbody feeding the diffuser and a larger rear wing, the GT3 also has new air intakes that have a supercharging effect near the top speed, granting another 20 horses.

It's the full package, pointing towards a future where a GT3 will be faster than a 918 Spyder. What a world.
