Overall Rating:

Although it has the ground clearance and shape of an SUV, the Macan Turbo’s performance and driving thrills quickly erase its crossover mission from the driver’s memory. It’s unapologetically sporty; it races through corners as quickly and tenaciously as the high-end sports cars with which it shares a showroom floor. Simply put, it’s the Porsche of compact luxury crossovers. As with its lower-powered siblings-the Macan, Macan S, and Macan GTS-the Macan Turbo makes a few compromises to accomplish such feats of speed, and those seeking a spacious and cargo-friendly SUV may be left wanting. If you’re like us and consider driving pleasure to be priority one, the 10Best Trucks and SUVs award-winning Macan Turbo is the only crossover that will do.

What’s New for 2018?

Porsche decided not to meddle with success and left the Macan Turbo mostly alone for 2018. The addition of one free dealer maintenance visit included with every purchase is the sole change.

What Was New for 2017?

Porsche introduced the $10,445 Performance package for 2017, which juiced the Macan Turbo’s twin-turbo V-6 by 40 horsepower and 36 lb-ft of torque for new totals of 440 ponies and 442 lb-ft. The kit also lowered the suspension 0.4 inch, upped the Turbo’s top speed by 5 mph to 169 mph, and increased the size of the front brake rotors. Turbo extras including the sport exhaust and Sport Chrono package were bundled with the package.

Trims and Options We’d Choose

The Macan Turbo is an expensive piece with a starting price of $78,250, but it’s worth every penny to driving enthusiasts who also need space for people and cargo. In fact, we’d even suggest paying the extra $10,500 to nab the Performance package, which adds:

• An additional 40 horsepower and 36 lb-ft of torque
• Sport exhaust system
• Lowered sport suspension
• Navigation
• 18-way power front seats

At $88,750, our Macan Turbo with the Performance package doesn’t include any of the dizzying number of options that Porsche allows buyers to choose from to customize their ride. We’ll leave that extra spending to you.
