Last week, Subaru announced it would be bringing back the hardcore WRX STI Type RA (Record Attempt) to commemorate its latest attempt at a Nurburgring record this summer. Now, the new Type RA road car has officially been revealed, and it looks like one seriously capable machine.

In addition to the carbon fiber roof Subaru showed us on Thursday, the Type RA, limited to 500 units, will receive a host of different engine- and chassis-related upgrades all in the name of lap times.

The engine is the same 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer four that's powered the STI for the last billion years, but this time it's making 310 horsepower - up from 305 in the standard car, thanks to a new cold air intake, a high-flow exhaust, stronger pistons, and a retuned ECU. A six-speed manual transmission is the only gearbox available, and features a revised third gear ratio and short throw shifter in the RA.

Suspension-wise, the Type RA sees inverted struts, rear double wishbone suspension, and Bilstein dampers at all four corners. Additionally, the car features an "STI-tuned" vehicle dynamic control system to keep you in check in case you get a little too sideways.

The exterior has been upgraded with 19-inch BBS forged alloy wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan Sport tires, along with a carbon fiber pedestal wing, silver-painted brake calipers with cross-drilled rotors, and cherry blossom red accents around the mesh grille and rear bumper cover.

Inside, the Type RA benefits from bolstered Recaro front seats, and an individually numbered plaque.

Subaru hasn't announced the Type RA's curb weight or any performance specs yet, but with all these upgrades, we expect it to put up some serious numbers. We'll just have to wait and see.
