Audi has pulled the wraps off the 2019 R8 supercar, with both the coupe and the Spyder droptop getting a more aggressive design and a renewed focus on driving dynamics.

The R8's new front end has been designed to bring it in line with the company's R8 LMS GT3 and R8 LMS GT4 race cars. A larger, more angular grille has three inlets at the top of it that are reminiscent of those on the original Quattro, while a deeper front splitter is paired with additional triangular intakes at each side of the front end. At the back, new round exhaust pipes are set in a larger rear diffuser, and the rear grilles have been restyled. The R8 can now be had with gloss-black badges as an option; three different exterior trim packages add flair to the front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser. There are new 20-inch wheel designs, and Kemora Gray and Ascari Blue have been added to the color palette.

While Audi says that the R8 is now "even more powerful and faster," they give no horsepower ratings, only saying that the V-10 engine can be had in two different outputs. The 2018 R8 is available in V10 and V10 Plus guises, with the regular car putting out 532 horsepower and the V10 Plus making 602 horses.

With this model, there is a bigger focus on how the R8 drives. The suspension has been modified, with Audi claiming "more stability and precision." Both the electromechanically assisted power steering and the optional dynamic steering systems have been retuned for more road feedback and better response. Three new driving modes-Dry, Wet, and Snow-have been added to the R8's Dynamic Select system, and the stability control has been improved for better braking performance. Carbon-ceramic brakes are a new option, as is a front anti-roll bar made from aluminum and carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic.

The new R8 goes on sale in Europe in early 2019. Audi of America has not yet given any details on the U.S.-spec R8, but the changes for 2019 should mirror those for the European model.
