The new 2019 BMW X5 won’t be hitting dealerships for several more months, but we now know how much it’ll cost. As is expected for a redesigned model, prices are up from the outgoing third-generation X5, rising between $1200 and $1700 depending on engine choice. Technically, the base price of $61,695 is $3500 higher than before, but the six-cylinder model adds standard all-wheel drive; a rear-wheel-drive version akin to the outgoing car’s cheaper sDrive35i trim likely will arrive later, as it did for the smaller X3.

At launch, the base X5 will be an xDrive40i model, which, despite the new nomenclature, still means a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, which is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. It comes standard with a bit more equipment than before, as the base price includes navigation, adaptive dampers, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, a panoramic sunroof, and LED headlights.

The new X5’s upgrade engine remains a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8, and it starts at $76,745, again with all-wheel drive. We don’t yet know what extra equipment the xDrive50i includes, but its engine makes 11 more horsepower for a total of 456 hp.

All X5s will offer options including a third row of seats, laser headlights, and a heated steering wheel and armrests, but full option pricing will have to wait until closer to the X5’s on-sale date in November. A diesel and a rear-wheel-drive sDrive model should join the lineup later on, possibly for the 2020 model year.
