Lexus has released the first official photo of the redesigned 2019 ES sedan. The ES follows its lifelong under-the-skin sibling, the Toyota Camry, onto the company’s new TNGA architecture, and like the Camry, it adopts more expressive styling.

A series of vertical slats further emphasize the brand’s spindle grille, the triple-element headlights are lower and wider, and they’re underscored by check-mark-shaped LEDs. A lower shoulder-line crease and additional sculpting along the lower body reduces the visual height of the doors. The greenhouse appears to be elongated, and the side-view mirrors are reshaped.

Lexus is not yet ready to reveal any mechanical details of the new car, but we expect it won’t stray far from the current model’s mechanical formula, with a transverse-mounted V-6 driving the front wheels, although an eight-speed automatic transmission will swap in for the current six-speed. The “Hybrid” badge on the new car is confirmation that a gas-electric powertrain will once again also be offered.

We won’t have long to wait to see more of this new Lexus. April 25 is a date highlighted in a brief teaser video the company released, so we should know more soon.
