Yahoo Autos The 2020 Audi A4, S4, and Allroad Freshen Up with an Attractive Styling Update
The Audi A4 is getting several updates for 2020, chief among them new front- and rear-end styling that we think looks sharp.
A new MMI Touch infotainment system replaces the old A4's center control knob with a center-mounted touchscreen display.
The more powerful S4 sedan and the lifted A4-based Allroad wagon are also updated.
Audi's entire A4 lineup is finally ready for a major facelift after it received some tiny styling tweaks for 2019. With changes that are significantly more noticeable than last year's, the 2020 A4 benefits from new styling at the front and the rear and a reworked interior with a new infotainment system. While we only have details about the Europe-market cars at this point, an Audi U.S. spokesperson told C/D that similar updates will be coming to the U.S.-market A4-along with its S4 and A4 Allroad stablemates-sometime soon.
Up front, the A4's grille is larger and the headlights are reshaped with LED accents that remind us of the e-tron GT concept car. The taillights' more modern lighting signatures are similar to those on the new A6 which was redesigned for 2019.
Audi is also porting over a newer version of its MMI infotainment system to the A4. While it doesn't have the dual-touchscreen setup found in newer models such as the A6 and A7, the A4 does ditch its central control knob on the center console in favor of a centrally mounted touchscreen with revised graphics and menus. This enables all sorts of new connectivity options, although we're not sure exactly which of these will make their way to the U.S. market.
The Euro A4's powertrains also have little bearing on what we'll see in America. Audi is introducing 48-volt mild hybrid tech on many of the car's powertrains overseas, but we don't expect to see those on our shores-at least not yet. That means the 2020 A4 and Allroad are likely to continue with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, while the S4 should keep its turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6.
It may be a few more months before we get more U.S.-specific details on these updated Audis. Look for them to go on sale in America later this year.
