The 2024 Lexus GX 550 Starts at $64,250Lexus

Along with its Land Cruiser sibling, the 2024 Lexus GX 550 is one of the most hotly anticipated trucks hitting the market. The new, third-generation GX is Lexus' response to growing enthusiasm around its entry-level off-roader, promising Toyota-truck capability with modern technology and powertrains. On Wednesday, Lexus confirmed that the GX 550 will start at $64,250 when it arrives at dealers early next year.

Here's the complete pricing breakdown, with all prices including a $1350 delivery fee:

  • GX 550 Premium: $64,250

  • GX 550 Premium+: $69,50

  • GX 550 Luxury: $77,250

It's a fair bit more expensive than the current GX 460, which starts at $60,225, but buyers should be getting a lot in return. The new GX is based on Toyota's TNGA-F architecture that underpins the new Land Cruiser along with the Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, and Lexus LX. The old V-8 and six-speed automatic are gone in favor of a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 and a 10-speed auto. Power rises from 301 hp to 349 hp, and torque rises from 329 lb-ft to 479 lb-ft. Tow capacity also jumps 1500 pounds to 8000 pounds total.

The new GX is also larger than its predecessor, and inside, it sports all the latest Toyota/Lexus technology; The old GX, while lovely, felt like the 14-year-old truck it was, even with updates over the years. New for the 2024 model is the Overtrail and Overtrail+ trims, both of which come standard with 33-inch all-terrain tires, improved approach/departure/breakover angles, and Toyota's neat Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. Overlanders, get in line.

If GX pricing is a little steep for you, there's always the new Land Cruiser, which should start around $55,000. Of course, the Toyota will be less luxurious than its Lexus sibling, and the Land Cruiser won't get the V-6 either. Instead, the Toyota comes standard with a hybrid four-cylinder powertrain.

Lexus says a hybrid version of the GX is coming, but it hasn't revealed specs or pricing. It's possible that it could share the four-cylinder drivetrain with the Land Cruiser, but we could also see Lexus opting for the V-6 hybrid setup from the new Tundra and Sequoia.

Of course, the usual Toyota-truck pricing caveats apply. One imagines that dealers will try and put big markups on the GX when it arrives, but—and this isn't at all saying you should pay over sticker—residual values should be excellent.
