  • Ready for rugged adventures, the Peak Edition has standard all-wheel drive.

Volkswagen is joining the off-road-inspired crossover craze with the ’24 Atlas Peak Edition, unveiled today at the New York International Auto Show. This Atlas gets the usual appointments: more aggressive rubber, different cladding, and blacked-out trim.

While this Atlas sees some styling changes, the Atlas Peak Edition still shares the bones with the revised ’24 Atlas, which means it exclusively sports a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood. Though helping set this Atlas model apart from the rest of the pack is a pair of exclusive colors—Avocado Green (pictured above) and Pure Grey.

Styling represents the biggest change heading to the Atlas Peak Edition, which sports different cladding than the normal Atlas. The Peak Edition does borrow elements, like the gloss black “X” design grille, from the Atlas Cross Sport. The Peak Edition also sports blacked-out exterior design details and 255/60-18 all-terrain tires, which should give the Atlas some better chops while heading to your campsite.

Powering the Atlas Peak Edition is the same 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 that powers the rest of the Atlas lineup. This engine sends 269 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Giving the Atlas Peak Edition extra help off-road, Volkswagen is making all-wheel drive standard on Peak Edition models.

VW says these new models will start hitting dealerships this summer, but pricing is still to be determined. Considering the all-wheel-drive system, it's likely this Peak Edition will be priced similarly to the Atlas SEL, which as a 2023 model starts at $46,630. Though, with the introduction of 2024 models, you can almost expect that price to rise.
