Another Spring brings another round of major updates throughout the BMW family, including to the flagship M4 coupe. Unfortunately for buyers hoping for a more traditional look, BMW remains committed to enormous kidney grilles on cars like the current M4. Instead, the latest refresh is highlighted by new light designs and a power boost for all-wheel-drive models.

The car's biggest visual changes come from new headlight and taillight designs, highlighted by new vertical LED running lights. The taillights are also LED-based, but they feature laser diode-illuminated glass fibers for a three-dimensional design reminiscent of the unique tail lights on the limited-run M4 CSL. A new optional graphics package, available in either black or red gloss, adds another dimension of CSL-like appearance for basic more M4s.

All M4s also get another infotainment upgrade, this time adding BMW Operating System 8.5 to the curved display added last year. Unfortunately, that upgrade also comes with a climate control interface built into the display and what BMW calls "reduction in the number of buttons and controls in the cockpit." In other words, a decrease in dedicated physical controls on the car's dashboard.

All-wheel-drive models now come with a standard output of 523 hp, 20 hp more than rear-wheel-drive competition models and 50 hp more than standard rear-wheel-drive models. Only the basic rear-wheel-drive, non-competition variant gets a manual transmission, but the six-speed has been preserved for at least one more model year of row-your-own adventuring.

Other 4-Series models receive the same tail light and infotainment updates for 2025, although the lights are only an option on four-cylinder models. Both the 430i and M440i also receive 48V mild hybrid systems, bumping peak output to 375 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque for six-cylinder models. The four-cylinder 430i now produces 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

BMW says that the updated M4 Coupe will start at $79,100 when it arrives in March of 2024. That starting price goes all the way up to $95,300 for an M4 xDrive Competition Convertible.
