Yahoo Autos 2025 Chevrolet Equinox Shares Only a Name with Its EV Kin
The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox enters its fourth generation wearing boxier, more truck-like sheetmetal.

The outgoing Equinox's turbo four-cylinder engine gets breathed on and trades the old six-speed automatic transmission for either a CVT or an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Just as there are winter and summer equinoxes, there are now battery- and gas-powered Chevrolet Equinoxes, the latter of which gets thoroughly reworked for 2025. If you wagered the fourth-generation Equinox would crib its looks from the new-for-2024 Equinox EV, then cancel your Vegas plans. Though the two models may share a name and cast a similar-sized shadow, there's little else that ties this pair together.
New Transmissions and Trims for the 2025 Equinox
In fact, the 2025 Equinox shares more with its predecessor than its EV kin. This includes the outgoing SUV's platform and 175-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Chevy notes it's freshened these carryover components, but is keeping mum on specifics at the moment.
The engine no longer pairs with a six-speed automatic gearbox and instead mates to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) in front-drive form, with all-wheel-drive Equinoxes relying on an eight-speed automatic. Going the all-wheel-drive route brings 203 lb-ft of torque to the table. Front-drive models, meanwhile, make do with 184 lb-ft of twist.
Also gone are the entry-level LS and high-end Premier trims. Instead, the 2025 Equinox comes in just three grades: LT, RS, and Activ. The latter is new to the Equinox line and brings a distinct front fascia, an available contrasting white roof, and trim-specific 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Despite its rubber, the Activ is largely a styling package, and those looking for an Equinox with some real off-road capability will have to pray the bow-tie badge adds a dirt-friendly Z71 trim to the mix.
Like the Activ, the Equinox RS incorporates its own special front fascia. An optional contrasting black roof and available 20-inch wheels and tires (19s are standard) further separate the RS from the rest of the Equinox line.
More Storage Space in the 2025 Equinox
No matter the guise, all 2025 Equinoxes share an interior that nicely balances function and form. A column-mounted shifter replaces the outgoing SUV's console-mounted setup, freeing up the center console from clutter while notably improving storage space.
Sizeable 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster and 11.3-inch infotainment system displays come standard across the board, as do comfort and convenience features such as adaptive cruise control and a heated steering wheel. And unlike its battery-powered sibling, the 2025 Equinox remains Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. The Equinox RS and Activ, meanwhile, bring trim-distinct textile cues and hues, as well as a console-mounted drive-mode selector, to the cabin.
Chevy's yet to share pricing for the 2025 Equinox, which goes on sale later this year. Given the loss of the entry-level LS guise, we expect the latest-generation model to top the 2024 model's $27,995 cost of entry by a few thousand dollars, with the 2025 Equinox likely sporting a sticker price close to that of the current Equinox LT's starting sum of $30,890.
