The 2025 Nissan Kicks returns with bold looks, AWD, and more space

The 2025 Nissan Kicks has officially arrived at dealerships, and from every angle, it marks a stark departure from the previous generation. The sneaker-inspired subcompact crossover SUV has matured, adopting a more assertive attitude. The softer curves of its predecessor have given way to bold lines and angles, further emphasized by new two-tone paint options available on the higher SV and SR trims.

2025 Nissan Kicks offers bold new design with rugged styling

Nissan’s "V-Motion" grille and surrounding slim LED headlights give the Kicks a more modern and youthful appearance, while the matte plastic accents around the front, sides, and rear bumper add a rugged touch reminiscent of the Subaru Crosstrek. The redesigned taillights now extend down the rear quarter panels at a sharp angle, complementing the vehicle's overall design. Additionally, Nissan proudly showcases the embossed, color-keyed Kicks logo on the C-pillar—a subtle detail that makes the vehicle instantly recognizable.

AWD makes an appearance on the all-new Nissan Kicks

Under the hood lies a 2.0L MR20DD I4 engine, producing 139 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque, managed by an Xtronic CVT. While performance isn't the primary focus—evidenced by its 0-60 mph time of 9.5 to 9.8 seconds—the Kicks offers a respectable fuel economy of 28 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway. For the first time in the U.S. market, the Kicks is available with optional AWD, priced at an additional $1,500 on the S and SR trims or $1,650 on the SV trim. This new system could potentially enhance the subcompact SUV's handling capabilities compared to its predecessor. The top-tier SR trim also includes Nissan ProPilot Assist, which, according to Nissan, "reduces driver stress in heavy traffic by automatically controlling the accelerator and brakes to maintain a safe distance from the car in front."

2025 Kicks delivers on customization and minimalist interior design

Inside, the Kicks adopts a minimalist approach, free from unnecessary distractions. However, minimalism here doesn't mean boring. Nissan aims to add flair with available contrasting dual stitching and color accents around the gear selector. The SR trim features two 12.3-inch screens that create the illusion of a single, flowing display. The mid-level SV trim offers a 7-inch digital gauge cluster paired with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, while the base S trim is equipped with two 7-inch screens. Wireless charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard on all trims except the base S.

Optional features include a Dual Panel Panoramic Moonroof for those serene nighttime drives and a 10-speaker Bose sound system with speakers integrated into the front passenger seat headrests—a feature seemingly inspired by the Mazda Miata. Seat upholstery varies by trim level, with options for cloth, premium cloth, or leatherette, all featuring Nissan's Zero Gravity design, intended to enhance comfort on longer journeys.

Legroom has improved over the previous generation, offering rear passengers an extra inch of space. Additionally, Nissan highlights the new Kicks' cargo capacity, boasting 30 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats up and 60 cubic feet when they're folded down.

The 2025 Kicks stays affordable among its competition

Pricing for the 2025 Kicks starts at $21,830 for the base S trim with FWD. The SR trim starts at $26,180 but can exceed $36,000 with AWD and all available options. These figures make the Kicks a strong contender in its class, offering a lower starting MSRP than rivals like the VW Taos, Mazda CX-30, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Jeep Compass, and Hyundai Kona. However, competitors like the Hyundai Venue and Kia Soul are slightly cheaper, starting at $19,900 and $20,290, respectively.
