  • The 2025 Toyota Camry will only have one powertrain: a 2.5-liter I4 that works with a pair of electric motors to make 225 hp on front-wheel-drive models or 232 hp on all-wheel-drive models.

  • The ’25 Toyota Camry adds on-demand all-wheel drive for the first time on a hybrid.

  • Toyota says the ’25 Camry will arrive at dealerships in the spring of 2024.

Toyota is ditching its ICE-only Camry for 2025. The next-generation Toyota Camry eschews traditional powertrains and leans into the automaker’s hybrid hierarchy.

This next-generation Camry isn’t just a hybrid—it will also come available with all-wheel drive for the first time. Alongside the shift to hybrid powertrains, the 2025 Toyota Camry is wrapped in new sheetmetal that’s stuffed with a similarly new interior and more consumer tech.

Going hybrid only means that under the hood you’ll find Toyota’s fifth-generation gas-electric hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that works with Toyota’s two-motor eCVT to make 225 hp. Toyota will add another electric motor at the rear axle if you check the box for the on-demand all-wheel-drive system, which cranks total system output to 232 hp.

Reading between the lines, you might have picked up that the 3.5-liter V6 is not making a return, at least at launch. That means every trim level, including the XSE and XLE models, will use the same powertrain as the base model. Toyota also hasn’t mentioned any performance variants such as the Camry TRD, but it’s still too soon to tell if Toyota is moving away from over-powered Camry sedans.

Surrounding that hybrid system in the ’25 Camry is totally new sheetmetal, seemingly taking inspiration from the Toyota Crown in the front.

A wide front grille is accented by interesting signature lighting that features standard LED headlamps. The XSE grade adds a rear diffuser and a rear lip spoiler.

Of course, most folks buying a Camry care more about the interior experience. Base Camry models will get an 8.0-inch touchscreen media system that is flanked by a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster.

Moving up the option sheet, those small screens are replaced by 12.3-inch displays that handle the media system and instrumentation, respectively.

This next-gen Camry will come with push-button start as standard as well as dual-zone climate control. A 10-inch head-up display is available on XSE- and XLE-grade Camry sedans if you need even more information thrown your way.

Toyota says the new Camry will sport USB-A and USB-C ports. Oh yeah, and the media system will run Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Active safety features are becoming more important to consumers, and this Camry has them, in the form of Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 as standard equipment.

That means the most bargain-basement ’25 Camry you’ll find on a dealer lot will come with dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, and proactive driving assist, among other features to make your commute a little easier.

Most of this should be good news for prospective Camry buyers. Important pieces of info like fuel economy and price are still to come, but it shouldn’t be a surprise to see the combined MPG figure best the current Camry LE hybrid’s 52 mpg combined.

Still, the lack of V6 power (which has virtually disappeared from the midsize sedan segment already) might be bad news for those who love the absurd Camry TRD. However, considering Camry is Toyota’s second-best-selling product, and America’s best-selling midsize sedan, the company might know what most of its customers want.
