The 280 Horsepower Volkswagen Passat GT Concept Is Here to Win Back America

From Road & Track

This week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Volkswagen will reveal a 280-horsepower VR6-engnined Passat "GT" concept to the world. It represents the first of many cars Volkswagen will introduce to win back the hearts of betrayed owners and buyers since the infamous diesel scandal was revealed last year.

Complete with big 19-inch "tornado" wheels, LED headlights, bigger brakes, red fascia lines, and a whole bunch of carbon fiber, the Passat GT concept aims to reflect a sporty appearance not unlike the current GTI. The signature 3.6-liter VR6 V6 engine is connected to VW's DSG six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, giving it the performance to back up its looks.

Speaking of looks, Volkswagen claims the GT concept has over 20 different individual design changes over the standard Passat. Inside, passengers are greeted to even more carbon fiber trim, along with sporty two-tone seats.

As of now, the GT concept sits only as a "potential addition" to the Passat lineup. But seeing as how production-ready it looks, don't be surprised if it starts showing up in VW dealers near you.
