An Aston Martin DBS, valued at approximately $300,000, was severely damaged in a crash on Sunday night in Newport Beach, California. Authorities responded to the scene on the 7700 block of East Pacific Coast Highway around 7 p.m. after reports of the collision involving the luxury vehicle.
According to eyewitness accounts obtained by TNLA, the driver of the Aston Martin lost control of the car while traveling on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and collided with a red SUV. The impact left the Aston Martin with extensive damage, visible in photos from the scene showing the high-performance sports car’s crumpled front end.
Newport Beach police and firefighters quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation. Witnesses reported seeing the driver undergoing a field sobriety test administered by officers. The man, whose identity has not been released, appeared unsteady during the test, stumbling as he attempted to follow instructions.
After failing the sobriety test, the driver was placed in handcuffs and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). He was later escorted to a patrol car by police officers.
The crash occurred near the popular Crystal Cove Shake Shack, a local landmark where several customers rushed outside to observe the aftermath. An employee at the Shake Shack told TNLA that the commotion drew a crowd almost immediately, with onlookers watching as authorities assessed the damage and detained the driver.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. No injuries have been reported at this time, and the driver of the SUV involved in the crash has not been identified. The Newport Beach Police Department is expected to release more information as the investigation unfolds.
This incident highlights the risks and consequences associated with driving under the influence, particularly in high-performance vehicles like the Aston Martin DBS. Local authorities continue to stress the importance of responsible driving, especially on busy and scenic routes like Pacific Coast Highway.
