Yahoo Autos This 812 Scale Model Costs More Than a Real One
In partnership with Ferrari, RM Sotheby's is holding an auction in September at the exotic car brand's Maranello Factory featuring exclusively Ferrari auction lots. One of the lots is a 1:2 scale model of an 812 Superfast used in wind tunnel testing for aerodynamic development, and somehow, it's estimated to sell for more money than a real, actual 812 Superfast. Huh?
Hand-built by Ferrari engineers using carbon fiber and "other prototypal material," the 7.6-foot long model was used during 812 development testing to improve fluid dynamic results in the wind tunnel. Exposed screws and handwritten markings are scattered along the body, as you can see from the pictures below.
The 812 Superfast model is expected to be sold for somewhere between $337,000 and $385,000 at RM Sotheby's Leggenda e Passione auction. Keep in mind, the MSRP for an 812 Superfast is just $315,000, and you get an actual, working supercar.
We'd personally buy the real deal over this non-working piece of art, but for the right collector, this might be the perfect living room centerpiece.
