The age of electric pickups is upon us. You know what that means, right? We have to see which is quickest in a drag race. Watch as two of the most impressive all-electric trucks of 2022, the GMC Hummer EV and the Rivian R1T, hash it out to see which can claim straight-line supremacy.

The Throttle House YouTube channel recently brought together the two electrified pickups for a couple of tests at Willow Springs International Raceway in southern California. The Rivian is rated 835 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque while the Hummer comes in at an even 1000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque—though that's a bit misleading. Judging by power alone, the Hummer should have a sligtht edge. But power isn't the whole story.

Once you factor in weight, you'll understand why the Rivian has such an easy time defeating the Hummer in both a straight-up drag and a roll race. At 7173 pounds, the R1T is no lightweight. That's heavy, even for a pickup of its size. But it's nothing compared to the Hummer's gargantuan 9046-pound curb weight. That's as much as four Miatas. It's enough to ensure that even with the power advantage, it has no chance of winning.

It's worth noting Throttle House also brought a Tesla Model X Plaid to the drag race, which promptly defeated both trucks by several car lengths. So if you want ultimate acceleration prowess from your utility vehicle, Tesla is still king.
