An Air Suspension Somehow Made This Mercedes CL55 AMG More Reliable

From Road & Track

Air suspensions are known for providing an incredibly smooth ride as well as offering adjustable ride heights, but there's one thing they aren't typically known for-reliability. They wear out relatively quickly and are expensive to fix when they do.

For the original owner of this CL55 AMG, though, the stock hydraulic suspension that came with the car eventually became nightmare to maintain. So Brandon, his son, made what appears at first glance to be an odd choice. He replaced it with a full AccuAir Air suspension.

But as Matt Farah found out in his latest One Take, it's a move that actually fits the car extremely well. As a luxury coupe and not a sports car, the heavy CL rides comfortably and smoothly, even in the Malibu canyons.

Still, while it's not surprising that a luxury car would drive well on an air suspension, this is one of the few cases where one was installed to be less difficult to maintain.
