Think of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione and the first thing that comes to mind is Jeremy Clarkson's old review of it for Top Gear. If you haven't seen it, Clarkson gushes over the 8C's beauty, its engine sound ... and then trashes everything else about it. His has become the defining opinion about this car. But perhaps it shouldn't be.
The Smoking Tire's Matt Farah got behind the wheel of an 8C owned by Petrolicious founder Afshin Behnia and came away with a different take. If you look at the 8C and expect a true sports car, you'll be disappointed. But, take the 8C as a grand tourer, and it starts to make perfect sense.
The 8C's suspension may be soft, and its gearbox slow, but that's okay in a car built for cruising. And with a noise like this, you could forgive the 8C for just about any fault.
So, just because Clarkson trashed the 8C, doesn't mean it's actually trash.
