When it comes to Alfa Romeo, you have some choices. Whether you buy new from a dealership or used off a private party, odds are you'll encounter the wonderful quirkiness that most every Alfa comes along with. But each path has their advantages and disadvantages, as the folks at Carfection discover in this video comparison between a new Giulia Veloce and an older, modified GTV.

Though some enthusiasts scoff at the '90s-era front-wheel drive Alfas, they're not as bad as everyone thinks. Despite sending power to just the front wheels, they're still impressive to drive, and look as cool as any other Alfa out there. The GTV in this video has even been subject to a few mods, including a new suspension and an interior roll bar. And best of all, you get to hear that wonderful V6 symphony.

New Alfas, on the other hand, are a different story. The looks remain polarizing as ever, but the powertrain of the Giulia lacks the exotic touch of the naturally aspirated, high-revving GTV. Of course, the Giulia has a much more sophisticated chassis and suspension setup, allowing it to go down the road at a much quicker, more comfortable pace. It also has four doors, a trunk, and a fast-shifting eight-speed automatic. Plus, it's rear-wheel drive.

Whereas the Giulia comes complete with a factory warranty, there's no recourse for if and when the GTV leaves you on the side of the road. But then again, you can't replicate the charm of a classic car in anything new. Of course, all of this comes before even mentioning price. The GTV shown in the video here was purchased for just £3000 (around $4000), versus the Giulia's list price of around $40,000.

In the end it comes down to a combination of preference and what you're willing to put up with. Watch the video to see how the two cars compare here.
