Alfa's 4C Is Getting a One-Off Anniversary Special

It’s been a decade since the mid-engine, carbon-tubbed Alfa Romeo 4C made its official debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. While the car officially left production back in 2020, Alfa Romeo is gearing up to celebrate the car’s latest anniversary by way of a one-off special edition model.

The project, known as the "4C Designer's Cut," is a collaboration between Alfa Romeo and Stellantis’ Heritage Department. The program is being led by Alessandro Maccolini, who led the design team on the original 4C program. Interestingly, the Designer's Cut program isn’t meant to just involve Alfa employees. The brand is asking for input from owners and fans alike across the brand’s social channels. Maccolini has shared three aesthetic concepts from which the final design will be drawn from.

The first of these ascetic themes is carried by the 4C Tributo, which looks to Alfa’s unrivaled history for inspiration. As you might expect, that means this particular concept is painted in the brand’s signature red hue. The 4C Corsa concept is a bit more restrained in its visual approach, with a matte gray hue accenting the bodywork. The final concept is known as the 4C Leggenda, which carries a white and blue pastel look that mirrors Alfa Romeos of yesteryear. Those colors also happen to be a part of the crest of the Biscione utilized by the city of Milan, which is also featured in the center of Alfa’s logo. They don’t call the brand the House of Biscione for nothing.

Reviving the 4C isn't entirely new to Alfa, as the limited-run Abarth Classiche 1000 SP project was also based on the platform. That build was also part of the Stellantis Heritage Department effort, falling under the same “Reloaded by Creators” program launched by FCA in 2018.

The series production version of the Alfa Romeo 4C never delivered on its promised performance capabilities. That said, it was always an intriguing but of Italian design, and one that still looks great a decade down the road. Alfa Romeo has said that this particular Designer’s Cut project will result in some form of salable unit, but no specifics beyond that are available at this time. Whether they build a genuine one-off or a limited run of these things using existing cars, they certainly won’t come cheap.
