Wide receiver and Salinas High School product Jeffrey Weimer has had one incredible road to playing division one college football. But next year he will finally suit up as a University of Nevada, Las Vegas Runnin' Rebels.

Weimer played for football Coach Steve Zenk at Salinas high school, graduating in 2018 and heading to Hartnell. But he didn’t leave SHS without making an impact.

At the time Zenk was not coaching football, but Weimer felt differently about how Zenk should be spending his free time.

“He was one of the guys that convinced me to apply for the head coaching job,” Zenk said. “He would bring kids to my classroom every day to bug me.”

Zenk felt compelled to listen to his student, as he saw the work he put into his classwork. “He was a good student,” Zenk said. "He was diligent and worked hard.”

Weimer feels the support runs both ways and cherishes his time as a Cowboy. “It was great. You're exposed to so many different kinds of people,” Weimer said. “And they are so supportive of me.”

In his second season at Hartnell he strained his calf and was forced to make the tough decision to be a medical red-shirt for a year.
