Antonio Felix da Costa Closes Out Formula E Weekend with Electric Finish in Brooklyn

• Antonio Felix da Costa of the DS Techeetah team led from start to finish to close out the ABB FIA Formula E New York City E-Prix doubleheader in Brooklyn.

• Sunday's win was da Costa's first win of the Formula E season.

• Stoffel Vandoorne finished second and left Brooklyn with the season points lead after 12 of 16 races.

After a rain-shortened race in Brooklyn on Saturday, the ABB FIA Formula E Series New York City E-Prix went the distance on Sunday.

No hydroplaning into a wall. No red flags.

And that suited Antonio Felix da Costa of the DS Techeetah team just fine, as he led from start to finish to close out the New Your E-Prix doubleheader with his first victory of the season. Mercedes-EQ Formula E team driver Stoffel Vandoorne finished second and Mitch Evans of the Jaguar TCS Racing squad completed Sunday's podium.

Da Costa's margin of victory was 0.929 second over VanDoorne. Evans finished 3.524 seconds behind the winner. Eight cars finished within 7 seconds of the lead in the 45-minutes-plus-1-lap race.

“I love it," da Costa said. "This is a little bit like our Monaco, it is such an incredible city and to win here—I finished second and third here in the past—but to win this one today is amazing, especially given where we were coming from after such a tough start to the season. I love this, I love the struggle and to keep proving everyone wrong, working with my guys and keep on improving and finding ourselves better, and here we are standing as a winner this season again, amazing.

"(It is our) first win of the season. We have worked so hard man, these guys called me out to Paris and I spent weeks in the sim. It's boring, it sucks! But I need to thank them as well. I know I am the one lifting the trophy now but I couldn't do it without the 18 guys behind me, back in Paris as well. I am so happy and to do it with all the fans is amazing. The end lap was really amazing.”

With the runner-up finish, Vandoorne moved ahead of Edoardo Mortara for the top spot in the season drivers' standings. Mortara finished 10th to earn the final point in Sunday's Round 12 of the 16-race season.

“It is a great result today, and overall the weekend was a great result. P4 yesterday, P2 today, and especially after what happened yesterday with the big crash, the team had to change a complete new chassis and rebuild a new car overnight. They gave me a good one again today, so thanks to them. This result is definitely for them. It has been a good weekend for us in New York.

Season 8 for the all-electric open-wheel race series wraps up with doubleheader race weekends in London (July 30-31) and at Seoul, South Korea (Aug. 13-14). The London will be an ind0or/outdoor event.

Vandoorne, who raced for the McLaren F1 team full-time as recently as 2018, leads the championship by 11 points Mortara. Evans is five points further back in third. Jean-Éric Vergne, who finished 17th and out of the points Sunday, is 27 points shy of the top.
