The Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team finished its debut WRC season at third place behind Ford and Hyundai, beating Citroën in the process. That's not half bad for a re-entry into the series after fifteen years of absence. The Toyota Corolla WRC's career ended back in 2002, when Toyota decided to focus on its Formula-1 efforts instead.

The trio of new Yaris WRCs is ran by four-time rally champion Tommi Mäkinen through his company based in Finland, home of all major rally spirits. The drivers lineup is equally Finnish, consisting of Jari-Matti Latvala, Juho Hänninen and Esapekka Lappi.
