Just because a first car should be reliable, economical, and safe to drive, doesn't mean it needs to be boring. There's a ton of smart choices out there for first-time drivers that won't suck the fun out of getting behind the wheel.

The Ford Fiesta ST is a perfect example. I owned one for three years in college, and put 50,000 miles on it without any sort of issue. Those weren't easy highway miles either-I did around a dozen track days, a few ice races, a handful of rallycrosses, and countless autocrosses during my ownership. Still, that car never failed to get me were I was going safely. Plus, I got 30 miles per gallon during normal use.

But of course, the Fiesta isn't the only one that fits into this category. We want to know: What do you think would make for a fun first car? It doesn't necessarily have to be new-even the first-generation Miata still qualifies as a good example in my mind-it just has to make sense for a first-time driver (and, more importantly, not be boring).
