Yahoo Autos Aston Martin Making Its Track-Only Vulcan Faster
At this year's Geneva Motor Show, Aston Martin announced that it had created a new sub-brand, AMR Pro, that would bring race-inspired upgrades to all of its cars. We didn't expect to see the Vulcan, an 820-hp track-only freak machine, get the AMR Pro treatment, but that's exactly what's happened. Clearly, someone at Aston has a good sense of humor, making a car like the Vulcan even quicker.
The AMR Pro upgrade for the Vulcan doesn't include any engine upgrades, but instead focuses on aerodynamic and gearbox improvements. Thanks to all sorts of new aerodynamic components, including front dive planes, louvered panels above the front-wheel arches, a revised front splitter, and a new rear wing, the Vulcan sees approximately a 26-percent increase in downforce.
Shorter gear ratios also help the Vulcan accelerate better off the line and at corner exit, which seems like a useful upgrade for an 820-hp car. Aston Martin also managed to shave 11 lbs (5 kg) off the carbon fiber engine cover. Every little bit helps.
Aston Martin is offering this upgrade package for all of the 24 Vulcans it's built. Pricing hasn't been announced, but if you'd force us to venture a guess, we'd say the upgrade would be around $200,000 on top of the Vulcan's original $2.3 million asking price.
We have to imagine all Vulcan owners will go for this upgrade because, well, why wouldn't they? Expect to see the Vulcan AMR Pro fly up the hill at Goodwood this weekend.
