Aston Martin's F1-Inspired Hypercar Is Already Back-Ordered to Hell

From Road & Track

Built in collaboration with Red Bull Racing, the Aston Martin AM-RB 001 promises to be unlike any supercar the world has ever seen. If Aston Martin delivers on its promises, it'll be as close to a street-legal race car as you can get. Unsurprisingly, the number of people who want one already far exceeds the total number that will be built.

Australia's Motoring reports that even though the AM-RB 001 is expected to cost several million dollars, at least 450 people have expressed interest in buying one. The only problem is, Aston Martin originally planned on building 99 examples. The automaker has now upped that number to a maximum of 150, but that still leaves out 300 potential buyers.

Speaking to Motoring, Aston's head of global communications, Simon Sproule, said:

Interest is running at three times production at the moment. A couple of years ago we had the holy trinity of cars that all came out at the same time from Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren, and there were many collectors that had to have all three in their set. We now have the [AM-RB] 001 and I think a lot of those same collectors are saying they need one of our cars in their collection.

Unfortunately for many of those collectors, there are only so many AM-RB 001s to go around, and not everyone who wants one can have one. For the kind of people who have millions of dollars to spend on a single car, we imagine this will be a new experience for most of them.

But as the Rolling Stones would say, you can't always get what you want-even, apparently, if you're filthy rich.
