Yahoo Autos Automakers Won't Stop Developing Efficient Engines

New CAFE, Don't Care
Just the other week, the Trump Administration announced its intention to change the fuel economy targets set by Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFE. The thought was that the regulations were too harsh and reducing the targets would be a positive for the industry. However, the more regulations the auto industry has to deal with, the more innovative it gets, and the better cars we get.
Thing is, automakers are already working towards the goals that were set in 2022 - 2025 and have products and developments on the way to meet those regulations. That means that the automakers aren't likely to just change course, especially because the regs could change again. Now, Ford, GM, Honda, and others are saying that they have no plans to change what has been set in motion to meet CAFE's stringent goals. While automakers would welcome a bit more time to meet those goals–2022 is soon!–it doesn't sound like the pursuit of mechanical progress will be abandoned.

A thrilling F1 race in China was won by Daniel Ricciardo, followed by Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen. Meanwhile, an exciting Long Beach Grand Prix was won by Alexander Rossi, followed by Will Power and Ed Jones.
