What If Autonomous Cars Weren't Oppressively Boring?

From Road & Track

Autonomous car tech is being used to solve small problems right now. It's making traffic more bearable. It's making you look like less of a doofus when you park. It's making highway driving safer.

But none of that is exciting. It's all mundane tasks that are being made less awful. What if, instead of focusing on small, boring issues, autonomous cars were used to help us explore and drive all the way around the world?

That's what Honda has envisioned with these concept autonomous vehicles that can get across the desert, the ocean, and tundra.

Of course, these vehicles are a bit out there and conceptual, but that's the fun thing about them. This brings back that fantasy that's been sorely lacking from concept cars for ages. If autonomous cars will help us better explore the world, perhaps the future isn't so boring after all.
