Whether you're looking for an affordable toy or a serious performance machine, you'll find a nice selection of open-top vehicles that help you experience the joys of al fresco motoring. We've selected our favorite roadsters, convertibles, and cabriolets and arranged them in order from least to most expensive.

2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Price: $30,170

The latest evolution of the Miata, the ND2-generation MX-5, is as pure a roadster as ever. It comes standard with a softtop, but there's also the unique offering of an optional hardtop convertible, called Retractable Fastback (RF). While the RF helps with cabin noise and gives the car a distinct roofline, it does not compromise what makes the latest MX-5 one of the best sports cars ever made.

2025 Ford Mustang

Price: $41,615

While the Mustang isn't nearly as affordable as it used to be, it's still a serious performance bargain. For less than $60,000, you get a 480-horsepower convertible that will hit 60 mph in under 5.0 seconds. By pretty much any measure, that's quick, but with the top down, it'll feel even quicker. Still too much coin? The EcoBoost 'Stang convertible comes in at just over $40,000.

2025 BMW Z4

Price: $55,225

The current BMW Z4 is an oddity: it is available only as a convertible from BMW, but the same platform can be found as a coupe at Toyota dealerships as a Supra. BMW's version comes standard with a turbocharged four-cylinder, and a 382-hp turbo straight-six is optional. BMW even made a manual transmission available for 2025 with the six, as part of the "Handschalter" package, meaning "hand shift" in German.

2025 BMW 4-Series / M4 Convertible

Price: $59,875 (4-series) / $96,475 (M4)

The 4-series droptop comes in a variety of strengths: there's the four-cylinder 430i, the six-cylinder M440i, and the top-dog, high-performance M4. All have a four-seat layout and BMW's latest technology offerings, but the driving experiences rise in intensity as you move up the ladder. In convertible form, the M4 is only available in the most powerful Competition variant, with 523 horsepower, an eight-speed automatic and standard xDrive all-wheel drive.

2025 Mercedes-Benz CLE

Price: $67,600

The previous E-class and C-class cabriolets recently departed Mercedes-Benz's lineup, and the new CLE cabriolet is meant to split the difference between the two. It's nicely sized, with enough space for four inside, and exactly as posh and refined as you'd expect from a Benz. A turbo-four is standard in the CLE 300, while the CLE 450 has a more powerful inline-six. AMG versions are coming soon, too, including the 443-hp CLE 43.

2025 Porsche 718 Boxster

Price: $76,895

The 911 is probably the car you first think of when you hear Porsche, but Porsche's other sports car line is nothing to sneeze at. Now known collectively as the 718 and available in both 718 Boxster roadster and 718 Cayman coupe forms, this car's lineage started with the humble 986-generation Boxster in the late 1990s. Now, the mid-engined Porsche lineup builds all the way up to the GT3-engined Cayman GT4 RS.

The GTS 4.0 is not a bad option, either.

Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

Price: $76,995

Even the hardtop version of the Corvette Stingray has a removable targa roof, but the convertible variant adds a bit of extra open-air feel to the driving experience. The C8's top-opening mechanism is a bit more complex than before due to its mid-engine layout, but it doesn't add much weight or compromise performance much. The Corvette offers a wider range of powertrains than ever before, starting with a naturally aspirated V-8 and moving up to a powerful hybrid in the E-Ray and a screaming flat-plane-crank V-8 in the Z06. And then there's the ZR1, with a whopping 1064 horsepower.

BMW 8-Series / M8 Convertible

Base: $101,675 (8-series) / $140,975 (M8)

The 8-series convertible is more of a relaxed cruiser than a sports car, but that doesn't mean it's not powerful. The six-cylinder 840i and V-8 M850i versions are plenty quick, but the real fun comes in the M8 Competition, which has over 600 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive to put all that power to the ground. The all-wheel-drive system even has a 2WD setting that serves as a sort of drift mode for tail-out antics.

2024 Lexus LC 500 Convertible

Price: $107,300

Perhaps the most pure embodiment of the grand touring concept available today, the LC 500 pairs a huge, stately presence on the road with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8. The resulting car is not quite as track-ready as the competition, but it provides one of the most compelling driving experiences on the market. The latest refresh even replaces the outdated touchpad infotainment system, once our biggest complaint with the car.

2024 Mercedes-AMG SL

Price: $112,850

The latest SL has a hefty price tag, but that comes with hefty ambitions. The decades-old SL badge has been handed over to AMG, who have built the flagship Mercedes roadster into a fire-breathing, all-wheel drive car that oozes performance. The lineup includes a wide range of engines, starting with the six-cylinder SL 43 on the lower end and the wildly powerful SL 63 E Performance hybrid at the top.

Complicated, but complicated for a reason.

2025 Porsche 911 Cabriolet

Price: $135,395

In addition to the standard coupe and retractable-hardtop Targa variants, Porsche's flagship sports car is still available with a fully retractable softtop. The cabriolet top can be found on the majority of the brand's 911 range, all the way up to the 640-hp Turbo S. The GTS line—now with a new hybrid drivetrain—may be a better middle ground for most buyers seeking both luxury and performance, though.

2024 Ferrari 296 GTS

Price: $375,950

Our 2024 Performance Car of the Year winner, the Ferrari 296 GTB, is also available as a convertible called 296 GTS. Other than its removable roof, it's nearly identical to the fabulous 819-hp plug-in-hybrid sports car that won us over with its sensational driving dynamics. You'll pay a pretty premium for the privilege of feeling the wind in your hair, though as the GTS costs nearly $34,000 more than the coupe.
