1,024-hp custom supercar set for Pebble Beach debut

Next month's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance will see not just the usual retinue of classic and collectable vehicles from around the world, but a growing gathering of all-new cars from automakers great and small. Here's one example of something unseen coming to light on the California coast: an updated version of the Ford GT supercar built by a Ford tuner with full custom body and an engine massaged to 1,024 hp.

Built by Galpin Auto Sports and dubbed the Galpin Ford GTR1, it's the company's idea of what the GT might have become had Ford not stopped building its modern supercar in 2006. The power boost comes from swapping the original 5.4-liter V-8's supercharger for twin turbocharging, and Galpin estimates the power boost would be sufficient to toss the GTR1 to 225 mph.
