2014 Ford F-150 Tremor debuts, picking up the sport

Ford's SVT Raptor is perhaps the manliest truck on the market. It boasts extreme graphics, a wealth of V-8 thrust, and an engine note capable of evoking nightmares amongst young children. The downside, however, remains its starting cost of $43,920 dollars and its 11 mpg city / 16 mpg highway fuel stats, marking the Raptor as a relatively expensive truck to own.

Ford now has an solution for those yearning a similarly sporty truck, while demanding savings at the dealership as well as at the pump: Enter the 2014 Ford F-150 Tremor--the sport truck powered by Ford's 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, blending V-8 performance with V-6 efficiency.

That V-6 powerplant boasts 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, with 90-percent peak torque available from 1,700 rpm to 5,000 rpm. While EPA fuel numbers have yet to be released, expect the rear-wheel drive model to run around 16 mpg city / 22 mpg highway. An electronic locking rear differential helps put power down while a 4.10 rear axle remains the shortest drive ratio offered amongst the EcoBoost F-150 range, chosen to optimize off-the-line acceleration. This is the first EcoBoost engine fitted to the short wheel base, regular cab F-150.

The FX Appearance Package offers flat black details, unique 20 inch wheels, as well as various body graphics. Inside the cabin, a flow through center console and bucket seats with Alcantara inserts and red piping add to the sporty character. Ford have not yet released pricing for the F-150 Tremor, but its set to come in a chunk lower than the almighty Raptor. When it goes on sale this fall, the Tremor promises to fill a needed gap below its big brother.
