April 13: Ford unveiled the Mustang at the World’s Fair in New York on this date in 1964

On April 13, 1964 — 48 years ago today — Lee Iococca unveiled the 1965 Ford Mustang to reporters at New York's World's Fair, officially kicking off an internationally coordinated publicity tour that made the car an instant sensation. The best (or perhaps worst) line in the corresponding ad: "engineering excellence...puts tang in the Mustang, thunder in the Thunderbird, and zest in all the rest of our Ford-built cars." That's right, folks: tang came standard.
