For a poor kid who dropped out of school to work a welding job that paid for his racing, Ralph Dale Earnhardt came a long way to become one of the greatest NASCAR drivers in the sport's history, and certainly its most popular. It's easy for his tragic end to obscure what made Earnhardt the modern era epitome of stock-car racing beyond just how many races he won. Here's a glimpse of Earnhardt's force on the track; the 1987 Winston race — an exhibition with no championship points — where he earned the nickname "The Intimidator" for life.
