Other brands had sold them as standard equipment on some models, but 78 years ago today, Ford Motor Co. became the first automobile manufacturer to make whitewall tires an option on all its new cars, at a cost of $11.25 per set. The trend would last well into the 1960s, and some of us would like to see it make a comeback. Who's with me?
