Happy 150th birthday to Henry Ford: Flickr photo of the day

The truth is, Henry Ford never wanted to go fast for fast's sake. When he started building his first race car in 1901, it was because racing was the surest way at the time for a start-up inventor to get his cars noticed by the press and wealthy patrons. "If an automobile were going to be known for speed," Ford wrote many years later, "then I was going to make an automobile that would be known wherever speed was known." Ford won his first race, even though the experience left him scared for his life, and over the years he'd come back to racing whenever he had a point to prove — and that 1901 race gave him the name and experience that eventually led to the company bearing his name today. On his 150th birthday, enjoy the Flickr gallery below of the speed that made Henry Ford the world's most successful car builder.
