March 28: Ford goes into the bomber-building business on this date in 1942

On this date in 1942, soon after the U.S. entered WWII, Ford Motor Company began construction of the Willow Run factory to mass produce B-24 Liberator bombers. Despite early quality problems, the factory was eventually producing one B-24 per hour.
