Yahoo Autos BMW Will Have 12 EVs in its Lineup by 2025
The age of electric vehicles is upon us, and BMW certainly knows it. According to a report by Reuters, the company is preparing to mass-produce electric cars by 2020, with plans to offer 12 different all-electric vehicles in its lineup by 2025.
BMW Chief Executive Harald Krueger told journalists today in Munich of the company's plans to go electric.
“By 2025, we will offer 25 electrified vehicles - 12 will be fully-electric,” Krueger said. He added that at least one of the cars in that lineup will have a range of up to 435 miles per charge. For comparison, Tesla's top-tier Model S 100D has an EPA-estimated range of 335 miles per charge.
“We will be increasing the share of electrified models across all brands and model series," added Krueger. "And, yes, that also includes the Rolls-Royce brand and BMW M vehicles."
This isn't the first time we've heard that electric M cars are coming. BMW M division boss Frank Van Meel revealed back in January it was only a matter of when, not if, EV M cars would become a reality.
Rolls-Royce experimented in the past with electrification in the form of an all-electric Phantom back in 2011, but never put it into production.
According to Reuters, BMW is also expected to unveil a new all-electric four door meant to slot in between the i3 city car and i8 sports car at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
