The New BMW M4 CSL Will Have Pilot Sport Cup 2 Rs and a Ducktail Spoiler

The new BMW M4 Competition is faster than ever. With 503 hp and available all-wheel drive, it's leagues quicker than any of the M3s that made the name a legend. Yet in terms of engagement, many say it still falls behind the best of the breed. Our best hope is the upcoming M4 CSL.

CSL originally stood for "Coupe Sport Leichtbau," which loosely translates to lightweight sports coupe. The original CSL was a high-performance version of the E9, but many BMW fans today remember it for the iconic E46 M3 CSL, with its ducktail spoiler and 360-hp output. That car was among the best of the best.

In a new teaser video for the CSL, the car's dynamic lead Jörg Weidinger points out the clear ducktail spoiler shape underneath the car's camouflage wrap. That throwback nod will certainly be appreciated, while the Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires ensure that the new CSL will be frighteningly grippy.
