Almost 50 years ago to this day, BMW Motorsport GmbH was founded. In the decades that followed, the performance division dominated race series around the globe, all while delivering some of the best driver's cars on the planet. To celebrate, BMW is releasing a limited-edition M3 in some very exciting throwback colors.

The M3 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M, which translates literally to M3 Edition 50 years of BMW M, is based on the 2023 M3 Competition xDrive. That means a twin-turbo straight-six under the hood making 503 hp, sending power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic. Every package and option, save for the carbon bucket seats and carbon-ceramic brakes, come as standard. All customers have to do is choose between three colors of brake caliper and their preferred exterior color. And there are some fantastic colors to choose from. From BMW's release:

The M3 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M will be offered in modern formulations of five iconic paint colors—one from each of the previous five generations of M3. The legendary E30 M3 is represented in vibrant, non-metallic Cinnabar Red. The E36 M3 is evoked by dazzling Techno Violet. Deep Interlagos Blue is taken from the palette of the storied E46 M3. Fire Orange III will be remembered from the limited Lime Rock Park Edition of the ferocious E92 M3. And Limerock Grey graced the rare and thrilling F80 M3 CS. Two of the colors, Techno Violet, and Interlagos Blue, were revived just for this Edition, and starting with July production will be available only on the M3 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M for model year 2023.
