The Boat-Tail Duetto Spider Is a Stunning Piece of Alfa Romeo History

From Road & Track

Long before Alfa Romeo made 500-horsepower, tire smoking mid-size sedans, it produced lovely little roadsters, like the Duetto Spider. Its body was designed and built by Pininfarina, and came with a host of peppy four-cylinder engines. Harry Metcalfe of Harry's Garage got a hold of a wonderfully kept example, and now he's here to tell us all about it.

This particular silver car left the factory in 1967 with a 1600cc inline-four, but was later swapped for a larger, more powerful 1750cc unit. Thanks to its light weight and simplicity, Metcalfe finds the little Duetto quite a joy to drive around the countryside with the top down.

And despite its primitive, 50-year-old suspension, Metcalfe discovers the Alfa roadster actually still rides relatively well. Combine that with the stunning design and lovely-sounding engine, and you've got yourself the perfect classic Italian cruiser.

Watch for yourself as Metcalfe takes us for a drive in one of Alfa Romeo's prettiest cars ever.
