Yahoo Autos Bugatti Chiron vs. Veyron SS Drag Race Video
All you need is a piece of paper to figure out the Bugatti Chiron is quicker than its predecessor, the Veyron. Specs show it has more power, better aerodynamics, and a whole bunch of other new go-fast tech. But we've never actually seen the two hypercars race side-by-side-until now, that is. But even after watching this Chiron vs. Veyron drag race, there are still some issues.
The video, shot by Turnpike Racing League on YouTube, consists of two drag races between a black Veyron Super Sport and a black Chiron. The races take place on a thin, short runway somewhere in upstate New York during an event put on by Driving Force Club, a members-only exotic car club centered in the tri-state New York area.
The first race doesn't seem to be a race at all-more like a leisurely drive down the runway for the two cars. Neither of the drivers use launch control, and judging by the audio, neither of them go full-throttle until later down the course. The second race is slightly better, with the Chiron using launch control.
Seeing as how quickly each race ends, it's clear this runway is way too short to be doing a drag race between two of the world's fastest production cars. While it's obvious the Chiron is quicker, we can't really tell by how much, or if the Veyron driver was actually going as quickly as they could've been. The Veyron driver didn't start as the same time as the Chiron, and didn't use launch control. It's also worth noting the bumpiness of the runway, as evidenced by the up and down motion of the cars during each race as they traveled down it-another factor that could've contributed.
So if you were hoping for some solid real-world numbers comparing the Chiron to its older brother, sorry, this isn't the drag race video for you. But it's still cool to see some of the VW Group's most advanced pieces of machinery go head-to-head.
