The IMSA racing championship was full of great cars throughout the 1980s, and now, you finally have a chance to own one yourself. This Chevrolet GTP took the series win in 1984, and now it's for sale.

Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.

This GTP was sold new to Blue Thunder Racing, campaigned by drivers Randy Lanier and Bill Whittington with sponsorship from Apache Power Boats. According to the ad on Race Cars Direct, it took victory at Riverside, Laguna Seca, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Portland, and Michigan during the 1984 season.

The next year, the car was seized by the FBI after the drivers and their sponsor were convicted of drug trafficking. Lanier was released in 2015, and has since contributed to Road & Track talking about his return to racing after 26 years.

The car was sold by the FBI in 1988 to a couple who owned it until 2007, when Aston Martin test driver Chris Goodwin purchased it and imported it to the UK. He sold it in 2015 to an owner who had the engine and Chevy V8 rebuilt. Now, it's being offered for sale for an undisclosed price.
