Buy This Honda Beat

From Road & Track

When we first drove Honda's tiny S660, it far exceeded our expectations. Despite its tiny engine, it was an absolute hoot to drive. Unfortunately, we can't get the S660 in the States. But if you dream of kei-car roadster fun, what you can get is the S660's predecessor the Honda Beat.

This particular Beat, up for auction on Bring a Trailer, was imported from Japan earlier this year and only has 47,000 miles on it. It also still has the original cloth top. And other than a few cosmetic modifications like a Momo steering wheel and shift knob, this is a car that's been left stock. That means the cloth upholstery is still the original zebra-print pattern that came from the factory.

The fact that it's right-hand drive might be an issue for some people, but the Beat's tiny size might actually make that easier to handle. And besides, how often do you see a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive roadster with a manual transmission being sold for so little money?

It's also the closest thing to the S660 that we'll be able to get our hands on in the States, so if you've got a thing for super-light, teeny-tiny roadsters, maybe this Beat will make an acceptable substitute.
