From Car and Driver

Cadillac is the only General Motors brand that doesn't currently have a three-row car-based crossover, so the new XT6 may seem like a foregone conclusion to fill the gap in the lineup between the two-row XT5 and the huge, truck-based Escalade. We now know that the 2020 XT6, a more luxury-oriented family SUV, will officially make its debut at the Detroit auto show in January, joining the existing Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Buick Enclave.

Based on what we saw when we spied an XT6 prototype testing earlier this year, the Cadillac will ride on the long-wheelbase version of the C1XX platform, making it similar in size to the Traverse and Enclave rather than the smaller Acadia. It'll have its own unique Cadillac styling cues, however, including a new front end inspired by the Escala concept, ritzier trim pieces, and different lighting elements. We expect both front- and all-wheel drive to be offered, with the same 310-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 engine from the XT5 supplying power-there's a chance Cadillac could offer the XTS V-Sport's twin-turbocharged, 410-hp version of this V-6 in a higher-performance version of the XT6 eventually, but we're not holding our breath.

Cadillac is likely to offer both seven- and eight-seat layouts with either a three-place second-row bench or second-row captain's chairs and a three-place rear seat. Given its size and what we've experienced in the Enclave, it should offer more space in the third row and more cargo space than competitors such as the Infiniti QX60 and Acura MDX.

When the XT6 starts hitting dealerships sometime later in 2019, it should line up with those rivals price-wise, starting somewhere in the high $40,000 range and getting up to the $60,000s with options. Look for more official information to drop as Cadillac reveals the XT6 for real January 13.
