Mecum Auctions recently unveiled the lineup for its Monterey 2018 event, and among all the neat vintage cars and exotics is none other than Dallara DW12 Chassis 037-the Napa Auto Parts-branded IndyCar Alexander Rossi drove to victory in the 100th running of the Indy 500. It's one of the sport's most important cars ever, and now, you have a chance to own it. But there's a catch: the engine won't be included. Until 2020, that is.

Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.

According Mecum's press release, whoever wins Rossi's car in August will receive the complete vehicle minus the race-winning twin-turbo Honda engine. Because of an agreement with Honda Performance Development, the power unit will be returned to the car no later than 2020. That means whoever buys this car will have everything they need to drive the car, minus the thing that actually makes it move.

In complete race trim, chassis 037 is capable of achieving an average speed of over 230 mph around Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This is accomplished thanks to the car's carbon fiber and kevlar construction, 1590-pound curb weight, and six-speed XTRAC transmission. It also comes equipped with carbon Brembo brakes, and Firestone Firehawk tires with specially branded 100th Indianapolis 500 sidewall text.

According to Mecum, the car, which was originally constructed in 2012, was also driven by IndyCar racers Alex Tagliani, Jack Hawksworth, and Gabby Chaves before eventually ending up in Rossi's hands. It will go up for auction sometime between August 23rd and 25th as a part of Monterey's Car Week celebration. No estimate price is listed on Mecum's site, but considering this is one of the most significant race cars of the decade, don't expect it to go for cheap.
